A Study On Homonyms In Lamboya Dialect Of Sumba Language In West Sumba Regency

This study is aimed at identifying the forms of homonyms and describing the meaning of forms of homonyms in Lamboya dialect of Sumba language in West Sumba regency. The research design used is descriptive qualitative. The data were collected through observation, interview, note taking and recording techniques. The subject of this study were the native speakers in Lamboya dialect of Sumba language in Ringu Rara village, Lamboya sub district, West Sumba regency. The data were analyzed by transcribing, identifying, and describing techniques. The result shows that there are forty five forms of homonyms especially the type of homograph words found in Lamboya dialect of Sumba language in West Sumba regency, meanwhile the type of homophones was not found in any forms. Based on those forms of homonyms especially homographs, there are fourteen words that have similar parts of speech and thirty one words have different in parts of speech. In addition, there are six types of parts of speech were found that contained in these homographs such as noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, and preposition. Moreover, those forms of homographs have meanings, and the type of meaning that is described is lexical meaning. For example: 1) Al (noun) means younger sister/brother and pestle. 2) Hadede (verb) means cook and set up/to build. 3) Moro (adjective) means fertile, green, blue, and blind. 4) Dodoka (verb) means pointed, and dodoka (noun) means index finger. 5) Mal (adjective) means red, and mal (adverb) means tonight. 6) Lira (verb) means pickaback, and lira (preposition) means behind. 7) Mat/matti (adjective) means black, and Mat/Matti (pronoun) means a name of person in Lamboya community.
