The Use Of Noun Pictures To Improve Listening Skills Of The Fourth Grade Elementary Students Of Tunas Van Den Broeck Course Of Gmit Kota Kupang

The aim of this research is (1) to know how listening skills of the fourth grade elementary students of Tunas Van Den Broeck course of GMIT Kota Kupang can be improved. The writer took only one class, the fourth grade elementary students with the number of 17 students. The method used was classroom action research. This research was conducted using Kemmis and McTaggart action research procedure: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. First cycle consists of two meetings. The observation, interview, questionnaire and test were used to gather data for this research. The research was carried out in one cycle. The results in this research indicated that there was improvement of students’ listening skill. Most of the students gained good score at the end of the cycle. To know the improvement of students’ skill using noun pictures, can be seen from the result of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 55.29. In pre-test there were only 3 from 17 students passed the test and got score up to 75 with a percentage of (17.65%). Mean score of post-test in cycle I was 75.88 and 11 students got score up to 75 with a percentage of (64.70%). In teaching and learning process, the teacher implemented noun pictures as teaching media by giving the students some pictures related to the topic and asking them what the picture was. Besides using pictures, the teacher also used audio as supporting media. There would be also a game playing in teaching-learning process using pictures. It was to reduce boredom and monotonous. While in worksheets both pre-test and post-test the teacher use pictures to help students answered the questions easily. In conclusion using noun pictures in teaching Listening can improve students’ listening skill. Key words: noun, pictures, listening skills, Tunas Van Den Broeck, GMIT Kota Kupang.
