The Components Of Speech Event In Kolongbeo Traditional Ceremony

The present study employed qualitative descriptive methods to examine the ethnography of communication using Dell Hymes’ SPEAKING mnemonic in the meaning of Kolongbeo traditional ceremony. This study investigates the relationship between the speech event in the Kolongbeo traditional ceremony and Hymes’ speaking terms. The result was communication among the elders and the whole village community of Lamapaha Village with God in a Kolongbeo traditional ceremony. This ceremony took place in some places in Lamapaha village in some Nuba (settings), in which the scenes were quiet and solemn in some places and full of singing voices in others (scenes) to ask for prayers and to repel the plague that would enter the village (ends). The ceremony begins with feelings of fear for the bad things that will happen and then becomes a feeling of courage and hope that good things will happen and the community will be protected and kept away from disease outbreaks that will occur because they believe through prayers and poems addressed to God and ancestors (Act of Sequence). There were several tones, such as serious, tense, sad, promised, regret, apologize, anger, mocking, rude, and pleading, in which the communication was conducted in verbal and non-verbal speech (Key) by including code-mixing (Instrumentalities). The speech event of this Kolongbeo traditional ceremony is used a polite attitude and words, even if they are used unspoken words, because in this conversation, the elders of the Lamawuran tribe are speaking to God and the ancestor is (Norms of Interaction and Interpretation). The genre was full of prayers and sermons, even hope and determination to defeat bad things in the form of disease outbreaks that occur (Genre)
