This study aimed at determining whether the use of the Cloze Dictation Technique (CDT) of five students. In this study, could improve their English listening skills in the aspect of accuracy and general understanding in dialogue text. The subjects in this study were five Junior High School students of different grades who were selected based on their willingness to join the private class for free. This private class was mainly intended to practice English during five cycles and to get the data required. Besides listening practice, to motivate the students, they joined the class actively with high motivation, researcher also included other additional exercises to improve their English, including singing English songs, playing games, watching short videos, and reading short stories. The materials used during five cycles were selected from the internet, and they were all appropriate to the students’ levels. In this research, the writer employed qualitative and quantitative methods. It was a class action research (CAR) with five cycles intended to know the progress the students achieved after solving the problems identified in cycle 1 to cycle 5. To get quantitative data, the researcher used six tests: pretest and posttest cycle 1 up to cycle 5. To collect qualitative data, the researcher discussed mainly about the problems with the students at the end of each cycle. From the data analysis, it was known that the students’ skills improved significantly from 70 (pretest) to 93 (posttest), with an increase of 23 or 28.42%. It was also supported by the result of the t-test, which was 0.40 (Accuracy), and 0.60 (General understanding). The analysis also indicated that the average of progress in 5 cycles was 4.6% or 5.684. Based on the findings, it was concluded that CDT could be used as an effective alternative to increase the listening skills of students at this level. Besides that, this technique was proven to have more advantages than disadvantages.
