The Use Of Pictures In Teaching English Vocabulary By The English Teacher To The First-Grade Students Of UPTD SMP Negeri 15 Kupang

This study aims at knowing the use of pictures in teaching vocabulary to the first-grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri 15 Kupang. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The total population was 225 students of the first-grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri 15 Kupang. The researcher selected class A which had 45 students as the object and The researcher selected one English teacher as the sample. In this study, the researcher used three instruments. The first instrument was observation class the activities consisted of: warming up, presentation, skill practice, and assessment. The second instrument was an interview is a way of asking for some information related to research. In this case, the writer, as the interviewer, will ask the teacher for some information about the strategies that the English teacher used in teaching English vocabulary. The third instruments was recording is used to check the data obtained from the result of this study again. The researcher analyzed the data by reduction, displaying, and verification the data. The result shows that the use of pictures in teaching English vocabulary to the first-grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri 15 Kupang. The activities consisted of: warming up, presentation, skill practice, and assessment. In teaching vocabulary, teacher used pictures in every teaching and learning process. Teacher also used group and games too containing some pictures to make the students did not feel bored during studying. Based on the discussion, the research found the problems during the use of pictures vocabulary to the first-grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri 15 Kupang. The problems are: The clarity and pictures’ size, the limitation of the time and the limitation of teaching material equipments. The research also gave the solution to solve the problems. From the discussion in this result, the readers would know the use of pictures in teaching vocabulary to the first-grade students especially in junior high school.
