IMPROVING STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILL BY USING MODIFIED EXTENSIVE LISTENING APPROACH APPLIED TO THE SECOND GRADERS OF SMA NEGERI 1 MAUMERE
XMLThis study aims at knowing the listening skills of the second graders of SMA Negeri 1 Maumere. The research method that was used in this research was quantitative-qualitative research method (mixed method). The population of this research was the second graders of SMA Negeri 1 Maumere. The sample was taken from 10 students of the population. Techniques that were used to collect the data were test and questionnaire. The quantitative data obtained from the result of the test were analyzed to know the students’ listening skills. The qualitative data obtained from the result of questionnaire. The result of the data revealed that the modified Extensive Listening approach helped the students in improving their listening skill. It could be seen from the students’ achievement test score. In the pre-test, the mean score was 37 and the mean score was increased after the cycle was conducted. Then the mean score in post-test was increased, that was 90. The questionnaire result revealed that the students also experienced the enjoyable and meaningful learning processes. Thus, the students also obtained the advantages of the modified extensive listening approach.
