AN ANALYSIS OF THE USE OF GRAMMAR IN SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE WRITING BY THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 1 KUPANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024
XMLThis study aimed to analyze the use of the Simple Present Tense in writing daily activities by seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 KUPANG. The research method used in this study was qualitative descriptive research. Data was collected through the analysis of students’ daily activity writing. The results of the analysis showed that some students already had a good understanding of the simple present tense and used it correctly in writing daily activities. However, most students did not fully grasp the function of the simple present tense when used it in writing sentences about daily activities, such as adding "s" to verbs. For example, the word "wake" should be "wakes." Additionally, there are still errors in the use of capital letters, for instance, in the word "I" where some
students still used lowercase letters. Furthermore, errors in the use of commas and periods was also found, as students did not use commas to separate sentences and periods to end sentences. The findings of this study suggest that teachers should provided more practice and feedback to help students improve the use of Simple Present Tense in writing sentences.
