A Semiotic Analysis Of The Traditional Symbol Bau Lolon Ceremony In Tika Tukan Village Of Adonara Island
XMLSemiotic is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated. Bau Lolon is one of the traditional ceremonies that acts as a means of communication with ancestral spirits. The purpose of this study is to find out the traditional symbols of the Bau Lolon ceremony in Tika Tuka village on Adonara island. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method to find, collect and traditional symbols in the Adonara community in East Flores. The results obtained from this research are that there are four symbols in the Bau Lolon ceremony : Nawing (bamboo tube), Neak (coconut shell cup), Padu (candle), Tuak (palm wine). Nawing is a bamboo tube that functions as a tool for storing palm wine as well as a medium that symbolizes storing messages to be conveyed to ancestral spirits. Neak is a round coconut shell resembling a cup used to drink palm wine in the Bau Lolon ceremony. Padu is usually in the Bau Lolon ceremony as a sign of whether the Bau Lolon ceremony is accepted or not, as well as a symbol of summoning ancestral spirits. Tuak, in the Bau Lolon ceremony, manifests the value.
