GENERAL ENGLISH TEXTS IN READING COMPREHENSION OF GRADE EIGHT STUDENTS OF SMPN12 KUPANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024

This thesis is entitled: “General English Texts in Reading Comprehension of Grade Eight Students of SMPN 12 Kupang in the Academic Year 2023/2024”. The problem of the research is: How is the reading comprehension ability in general English texts of grade eight students of SMPN 12 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024? This is to determine reading comprehension ability in general English texts of grade eight students of SMPN 12 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024. The method used was a quantitative descriptive method. The research was conducted in SMPN 12 Kupang in March 2024. There were 320 students in the eighth gradeof SMPN 13 Kupang population, and the sample was 32 students, or 10% of the 320 students in the population. The researcher used a random sampling technique. The instrument used to collect data was a test, namely 3 tests and it was a multiple choice test where each test contained 15 questions. In collecting the data, the researcher tests the data collection procedures then followed by analyzing the data by using a formula. The results show that the reading comprehension ability of general English texts of class VIII students at SMPN 12 Kupang in the 2023/2024 academic year is in the sufficient category because the results of statistical calculations show that the average score is 50%, so it can be concluded that the level of general English reading comprehension ability has not fully reached the KKM.
