USING EXAMPLES NON-EXAMPLE MODEL IN TEACHING VOCABULARY TO THE SECOND-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMKN 1 WEWEWA TIMUR

This research aimed to know how examples non examples model can be used in teaching vocabulary at SMKN 1 Wewewa Timur, and to know the strengths and the weaknesses of examples non-examples model in teaching vocabulary to the second grade students of SMKN 1 Wewewa Timur. In this study, the writer only select one class, which consists of 22 students. There are two research problems in this study, they are; how can examples non-examples model be used in teaching vocabulary to the second grade students of SMKN 1 Wewewa Timur?, and what are the strengths and the weaknesses of using examples non-examples model in teaching vocabulary to the second grade students’ of SMKN 1 Wewewa Timur. The techniques used to collect the data are questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The writer uses data reduction, data display, and verification techniques in analyzing the data. Based on the analysis of data, it was found out that the examples non-examples model is very appropriate to use in English classes because it can developstudents' imaginations’ vocabulary when they are allowed to explain pictures related to teaching material. The advantages of non-examples are as follows: examples non-examples learning model can increase students' vocabulary, use of images helps students understand the material, Students find it easier to describe the material, Students can think critically, examples non-examples learning model improves students' ability in English, existence of group division helps students to discuss well and accept other people's suggestions, Students have the audacity to share thoughts that have been discussed in class, Students participate actively in class and pay closer attention, and the weaknesses of the examples non-example model are as follows: complicated images make it difficult for students to describe the material, Students have difficulty describing the relationship between images and material, and Implementing the examples non-example learning model takes a lot of time.
