This thesis is entitled: 'An Analysis of Speech Events Using Hyme's SPEAKING Concept in Traditional Ceremony of Joka Ju in Ende regency'. It focuses on Hyme's Speaking concept along with an analysis of settings/scene, participants, endings, act of sequence, keys, instrumentalities, norms of interaction, and genre. The problem of this study is what are the elements of speech events in Hyme's Speaking concept in Ende traditional ceremony? This study aims is to find out the elements of speech events in Hyme's speaking concept in Ende traditional ceremony. The research design used was qualitative descriptive method. The data resource were five informants. The data collection techniques were observation, interviews, and note taking. The technique used to be analyze the data was describing technique. The results show that there are eight aspects in the traditional joka ju ceremony based on the speaking concept by Dell Hymes. All aspects in joka ju according to the concept of SPEAKING by Dell Hymes have their respective functions that play an important role in all processes in the joka ju ritual. The same thing also happens to the cultural values that exist in the joka ju ritual. The place where the joka ju ritual is carried out are the 4 kanga sa'o (4 traditional houses) and the watu ju (altar) are the places where the joka ju ritual is carried out. and the time for carrying out this ritual is the day before the main ceremony is held in the evening at 7 pm, while the main activity of ngua ura joka ju is carried out from 08.00 to 15.00 WIB, then rests and continues again at 16.00 to 22.00 WIB for 4 days. The situation during this ritual takes place in a quiet, peaceful and very enthusiastic way as a form of expression of gratitude. The language used is Lio language . The rule is that if the village community violates the established norms, they will be subject to poi (sanctions) by the Mosalaki (customary head).
