An Analysis Of Persuasive Speech Acts In Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) Speeches Since 2018 Up To 2021
XMLPersuasive is one of speech acts in which the speaker intends to persuade, direct, and manipulate (changes) the audience’s feelings, thoughts, and action. This research is entitled “An analysis of Persuasive Speech Acts in Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) Speeches Since 2018 up to 2021”. This research is intended to identify the types of persuasive strategies and speech function in BTS persuasive speech acts. This research used a descriptive qualitative method and uses the theory from Steven Beebe and Susan Beebe (2012) to analyze types of persuasive strategy and Holmes (2013) theories to analyze the types of speech function. The number of subjects of this research is the seven members of BTS. The researcher has chosen three speech videos as the object of this research entitled (1) “Speak Yourself” in 2018, (2) “BTS Heartfelt Message for Tomorrow’s Generation” in 2020, and (3) “Welcome Generation” in 2021. The result of this research showed that there are 79 data points found in BTS member’s speech. The first research question, the researcher found 45 data points of persuasiveness in BTS members’ speech that contains 9 types of persuasive strategy. In the first classification of persuasive strategy which is using logic and evidence, the researcher found the use of credible evidence (5 data points), specific evidence (2 data points), and use evidence to tell the story (6 data points). Meanwhile, in the second classification of persuasive strategy which is using emotion to persuade, the researcher found the use of concrete examples to visualize what is described (2 data points), emotion arousing words (2 data points), metaphor and similes (4 data points), emotion arousing words (6 data points), hope (15 data points), pride (3 data points), and courage (2 data points). The second research question about types of speech function, the researcher found 34 data point that consists of expressive function (15 data points), directive function (6 data points), referential function (5 data points), poetic function (6 data points), and phatic function (2 data points).
