AN ANALYSIS OF INDONESIAN-ENGLISH CODE MIXING USED BY MAUDY AYUNDA AND AFGAN ON MAUDY AYUNDA'S YOURUBE CHANNEL

This thesis is entitled: ‘An Analysis of Indonesian-English Code Mixing Used by Maudy Ayunda and Afgan on Maudy Ayunda’s YouTube Channel.’ The problems of this study are, first is what are the types of Indonesian-English code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda and Afgan on Maudy Ayunda’s YouTube channel? Second, what are the forms of Indonesian-English code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda and Afgan on Maudy Ayunda’s YouTube channel? This study aims to identify, classify, and describe the types and the forms of Indonesian- English code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda and Afgan on Maudy Ayunda’s YouTube channel. The writer used the descriptive qualitative method. The observation technique was used to collect the data. The writer used the theory of Muysken (2000) as guidance to obtain types of Indonesian-English code mixing. Meanwhile the writer used the theory of Suwito (1996) to obtain forms of Indonesian-English code mixing. The result shows that there were 3 types of code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda and Afgan on Maudy Ayunda’s YouTube channel such as insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization in which 42 dialogues were identified as insertion, 32 dialogues were identified as alternation, and 8 dialogues were identified as congruent lexicalization. Furthermore, there were 6 forms of code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda and Afgan on Maudy Ayunda’s YouTube channel such as word, phrase, clause, hybrid, blending, and word reduplication. In particular, code mixing-contained word are found in 32 dialogues; code mixing-involved phrase are identified in 24 dialogues; code mixing-contained clause are obtained from 24 dialogues; code mixing-involved hybrid are identified in 6 dialogues; code mixing-contained blending is found in 1 dialogue; code mixing-involved word reduplication is obtained from 1 dialogue.
