AN ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERS AND EDUCATIONAL VALUES IN THE MOVIE ‘ENCANTO’ BY DISNEY

This study aims to analyze the characters and the educational values in the movie Encanto by Disney. The method used in this research was the qualitative method, which focused on textual data analysis. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method since it aims to explore and describe the characterization of characters and educational values in “Encanto” movies. The writer applied qualitative method in this study of written or spoken words of people and observed behavior. Qualitative results did not find generalizations but sought understanding of a case by collecting and analyzing data. It was found that each character in the Encanto movie has a different character and carries its educational value. Characterization in this movie is as follows: Mirabel is a good person, playful and active, Abuela with honest and selfish, Julieta is gentle and caring, Isabela is caring, Luisa is cheerful and energetic and panicking, Pepa is sensitive, Antonio is friendly, Camilo Hilarious and funny, Dolores who is responsible and Bruno who is loyal. This Movie also had educational values, which are divided into values of being and giving. Value of being which include values of honesty, bravery, and peace. On the other hand, values of giving include loyalty, love & affection, and unselfishness. In the context of education, character has a higher meaning than moral education, because it does not just teach what is right and what is wrong, more than that, character education instills habits about good things so that students understand what is right and wrong (cognitive domain), being able to feel (affective domain) and the usual values in doing so (behavioral domain) So, character education is closely related to habits that are continuously practiced or carried out.
