ONLINE ENGLISH LEARNING PRACTICES OF 6TH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH STUDY PROGRAM OF NUSA CENDANA UNIVERSITY

This thesis is entitled “Online English Practice of 6th-semester students of English Study Program Nusa Cendana University” This research was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) How often do the 6th-semester students learn English through online media? (2) What online media are used by 6th-semester students for learning English? (3) What aspects and or skills of English do the 6th-semester students learn through online media? (4) What are the benefits of learning English through online media? The aims of this are (1) To find out how often the 6th-semester students learn English through online media. (2) To describe online media used by 6th-semester students for learning English. (3) To find out aspects or skills English do the 6th-semester students learn through online media, (4) To find out the benefits of learning English through online media. The method used in this research is the mixed methods research approach, which includes both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The qualitative approach is used to gain an in-depth understanding of student's experiences and perceptions regarding online English learning, while the quantitative approach is used to measure the frequency of online media usage and the types of media most frequently used. The research findings show that the students study online for 2-3 hours per day, they use mobile applications, websites, video platforms, and podcasts. Some of the aspects and skills that students acquire are: 1. English Aspects: Increased number and variety of words and better understanding of sentence structure, as well as better pronunciation of words and phrases. 2. English Language Skills: Improved reading, writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills. The Benefits Stated by the students include 1. Improved English Skills: Students reported significant improvements in speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. For example in reading skills, students can comprehend academic text like previously struggling to understand scientific journal articles, now able to read and understand the content well, and able to summarize the main points. Reading efficiency, previously took a long time to read a chapter of a textbook, now can complete the reading more quickly and efficiently Speaking skills, confidence in presentation: previously felt nervous when making a presentation in front of the class, now can give a presentation smoothly and confidently. Writing skills, improve essay quality: able to write essays with good structure, strong arguments, and minimal grammatical errors through various online learning media such as tenses application and Google translate. Listening skills, able to follow lectures well and capture important information due to frequent practice listening to English music and audio. 2. Having time, 3. Access to wide range of learning materials, 4. Interaction with native speaker, 5. Development of learning independence.
