Teaching Speaking Through Questioning Strategy To The Fifth Grade Students Of Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School

This study is about the application of questioning strategies in teaching speaking in the fifth grade at Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School. This thesis is entitled ‘Teaching Speaking Through Questioning Strategy at the Fifth Grade of Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School.’ The researcher found two problems in this study. (1). What are the types of questioning strategies used by the teacher at Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School in teaching speaking? (2). How does the teacher implement questioning strategy in teaching at Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School used questioning strategy in teaching speaking? The main aim of this study is to (1) find out what types of questioning strategies are used by the teacher at Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School in teaching speaking. (2). How does the teacher implement questioning strategy in teaching at Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School used questioning strategy in teaching speaking? The writer used a qualitative method in this study to investigate the current phenomena, along with interview questions, an audio recorder, and an observation checklist. The subjects of this study are the English teachers from Santo Arnoldus Penfui Elementary School. The writer employed descriptive analysis in this study to characterize the questioning tactics used by the English teacher during the teaching and learning process. The result of this study shows that there are only two questioning strategies used by the teacher at Santo Arnoldus Elementary School, which are factual questioning strategies and open-ended questioning strategies. The teacher used only the two questioning strategies because of the habit they are used to while teaching English in that school.
