USING GRAPHIC ORGANIZER TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF GRADE TEN AT DEZ DE DEZEMBRO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, COMORO, DILI, TIMOR LESTE, ACADEMIC YEAR 2024
XMLThis research aimed to improve the reading comprehension of Grade 10 students at Dez de Dezembro Senior High School, Comoro, Dili, Timor-Leste, through the use of graphic organizers. The study involved 30 students during the 2024 academic year. Data were collected using observation checklists during the classroom action research and pre- and post-tests.
The results from the two-cycle study indicated that graphic organizers effectively enhanced students’ reading comprehension. When combined with skimming, scanning strategies, and communicative reading activities, this technique significantly improved the teaching and learning process. The reading activities became more interactive and engaging, allowing students to better grasp the concise information and relationships between ideas. As a result, students showed noticeable improvement, becoming more focused and active in lessons. They also became familiar with and applied various reading strategies, leading to more effective and efficient reading comprehension.
