Aktualisasi Diri Tokoh Utama Novel Across The Ocean Karya Ria Destriana

This research is entitled "Self-Actualization of the Main Character of the Novel Across The Ocean by Ria Destriana". This study tells the story of two people who have a broken heart. The problem discussed in this study is how to self-actualize the main character depicted in the novel Across The Ocean. The purpose of this study is to describe the main character in the novel. The theory used in this study is the theory of literary psychology which refers to the hierarchical needs of Abraham H. Maslow. The method in this study uses a qualitative descriptive method, because it does not involve numbers. In addition, it suppresses the depth of information so that it is valuable. The data source in this study is the novel Across the Ocean by Ria Destriana. The results showed that the two characters Bayu and Anin had the same problem, namely a broken heart caused by a breakup. Bayu character, his love breaks up because of religious differences which caused trauma for him. The form of self-actualization is with the potential and independence as a writer and entrepreneur, being able to get rid of his trauma and get his happiness back. Anin character, her love breaks up because her lover left her to die which caused a broken heart and trauma for her. The form of self-actualization is with effort and self-confidence, being able to relieve trauma and regain happiness in her way. The analysis is done by looking at events based on Maslow's hierarchical needs.
