Green jungle fowl (Gallus varius) is one of Indonesia's endemic jungle fowl, which is spread over a few islands, namely Java, Madura, Bawean, Kangean, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores and Alor. Currently the status of green jungle fowl is not yet included in protected wildlife, therefore many people market green jungle fowl with a fairly high selling value. Seeing the very interesting potential of green jungle fowl, various studies on green jungle fowl are needed. This study aims to determine the anatomical and histological characteristics of the small intestine of green jungle fowl. Small intestine samples were taken from 3 green jungle fowl collected in Alor Regency. Macroscopic observations included location, shape, color, and consistency as well as organ length measurements, then the samples were fixed using 10% formalin, made histology preparations and stained with hemaktocillin and eosin (HE). The results showed that the small intestine of green jungle fowl consisted of the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. The small intestine of the green jungle fowl is located in the abdominal cavity, is pinkish-gray in color, has a soft consistency and a smooth surface. The average length of the duodenum is 26.1 cm, the mean length of the jejunum is 37.1 cm and the average length of the ileum is 38.8 cm. The green jungle fowl has a meckle's diverticulum that is so small it's barely noticeable. Meckel's diverticulum is located between the jejunum and ileum. Histologically, the small intestine of green jungle fowl has a wall consisting of 4 layers, namely tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa, tunica muscularis and tunica serosa. The jejunum villi of the slender green jungle fowl extend from apical to basal and taper apically. The tunica submucosa is observed as a thin connective tissue that is difficult to see. The tunica muscularis differs from some other birds in that the circular muscles are located on the outside and the longitudinal muscles are on the inside.
