A Semiotic Analysis Of Woven Sarong Motifs In North Amanatun Cultural Community

This research focuses at cultural semiotics to analyse the symbols and meanings found in traditional woven sarong motifs in the North Amanatun cultural community. This research was conducted to answer the research question: (1) What are the symbols found in woven sarong motifs in the North Amanatun Cultural Community? (2) What are the meanings of the symbols in woven sarong motifs in the North Amanatun Cultural Community? The research applied qualitative descriptive research design. The subject of the research consisted of three informants. The research was conducted at Nasi Village RT 05/RW 03, in the North Amanatun subdistrict, South Central Timor regency on October 2024. The research result shows that there are six symbols on the woven sarong motifs in the North Amanatun cultural community. the symbols are: Biklusu (house lizard), Teke (gecko), Atoni (man), Manu (rooster), Be’o (frog), Lablai (spider).
