Thesis by Yeremias Pati (2101010094), PBSI 2025, supervised by Mrs. Margareta P.E Djokaho, S.Sn., M.Pd. and Dr. Karolus Budiman Jama, M.Pd., with the title: “An Analysis of the Relationship Between Tradition and Elements of Locality Ola Nua in the Main Character of the Novel Lamafa by Fince Bataona. ”The research problem in this study is: how is the relationship between tradition and the element of locality Ola Nua in the main character of the novel Lamafa by Fince Bataona. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study by presenting, describing, and analyzing. This research aims to describe the relationship between tradition and the element of locality Ola Nua in the main character of the novel Lamafa by Fince Bataona. The theory used in this research is literary anthropology. The results of the study show that the relationship of the Ola Nua tradition in the main character of the novel Lamafa consists of four forms of relationship: personal relationship, cultural relationship, social relationship, and spiritual relationship. The personal relationship in the novel Lamafa by Fince Bataona is a form of individual relationship with the Ola Nua tradition as a tradition of the Lamalera community. This is reflected in the personality, discipline, and perseverance of the main character toward the tradition itself. Secondly, the cultural relationship refers to the relationship between the main character as a member and inheritor of the tradition and their effort to preserve the culture of Ola Nua, where they are taught how to harpoon whales. Third, the social relationship refers to the interpersonal relations within the community, both directly and indirectly, which prioritize humanitarian values. This is shown by the main character through interactions with the local community such as sharing the catch from the sea. Fourth, the spiritual relationship is the form of connection between the main character as a being who respects their Creator, reflected in rituals such as the Misa Lefa and the blessing of the peledang (traditional whaling boat) before practicing the Ola Nua tradition, and the thanksgiving Mass for the harvest they receive.
