Analysis of Errors in Using Countable and Uncountable Noun Committed by Seventh Grade Students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in the Academic year 2020/2021

This thesis is entitled: AN ANALYSIS of ERRORS in USING COUNTABLE and UNCOUNTABLE NOUN COMMITED by SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS of SMP KRISTEN REHOBOTH, CENTRAL SUMBA in the ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021. The problems of this study are (1) What are the errors committed by seventh grade students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in academic year 2020/2021 in using countable and uncountable nouns? (2) What are the errors mostly committed by students? (3) Why do students make the errors? This study aims to: (1) Identify the errors committed by students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in using countable and uncountable nouns. (2) Identify the types of errors mostly committed by the seventh grade students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in using countable and uncountable nouns. (3) Describe the causes of errors committed by seventh grade students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in academic year 2020/2021 in using countable and uncountable nouns. The method that is used in this study was descriptive qualitative method and quantitative method (mix method). The population used in this study was the seventh grade students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in the Academic year 2020/2021. The number of population was 60 students. The writer selected all of 60 students as the sample. In this research the writer used a test consisted of 20 items and an interview as instruments. The writer analyzed the data by grading, identifying and determine the errors committed by the students. The result shows that there were four types of errors committed by the students in using countable and uncountable noun. They are omission error with its total of error was 143 and its percentage was 21%, addition error with its total of error was 428 and its percentage was 62%, misformation error with its total error was 91 and its percentage was 13%, and misordering error with its total of error was 27 and its percentage was 4%. The type of error mostly committed by the students was addition error. There are three causes of errors made by seventh grade students of SMP Kristen Rehoboth, Central Sumba in using countable and uncountable noun, such as: carelessness, the lack of vocabulary, and the lack of grammatical.
