Listening as one of four skills in language has an essential role in learning process. As a complex process of understanding and making sense of spoken language (Fred, 2013), students often find many difficulties in listening comprehension and one of them is listening through media. There are many variations of media either audio, visual or audio-visual. One of the visual media in teaching-learning listening is a map; map labelling then is a teaching-learning technique of listening skill. Therefore, the writer conducted a research with the use of map as media and map-labelling as technique. The objectives of this study are; (1) to describe how effective are map and map-labelling in learning listening comprehension, (2) to find out the participants’ ability in listening comprehension through map and map-labelling technique, and (3) to explain, is there any difficulties are encountered in the learning process with the use of map and map-labelling. This research involved a case study deals with qualitative and quantitative method. With the used of the case study, it focused this research on one particular instance of educational experience or practice. The participants were 5 students of senior high school in Alor regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Qualitative data used to determines whether map as media and map-labelling as technique make a different result for participants in learning listening skill. The quantitative data were collecting through learning tasks result, questionnaire and observation checklist mean score. The results of this study showed the improvement of each participants’ ability in learning process of listening comprehension. The percentages of observation checklist are improved in each session. Which reflected the behavior of participants were increased in active of each learning process. The participants faced the same problem while doing this learning task, that is an unfamiliar vocabulary (related to each participants knowledge), distraction from the family (or people in the house). The other problems that not all of them faced are accent, quality of recorded materials, and the length and speed of the speech.Beside of the internal and external difficulties the participants encountered in every session, they still managed to obtain a good achievement. It could be seen from their mean score improvement of each session in this research.
