An Analysis Of Difficulties In Determining Quantifiers Committed By Eight Grade Students Of SMP Negeri 2 Kupang In Academic Year 2020/2021

This study is entitled: AN ANALYSIS OF DIFFICULTIES IN DETERMINING QUANTIFIERS COMMITTED BY EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 2 KUPANG IN ACAD EMIC YEAR 2020/2021. The problem of this research are (1) what are difficulties faced by eight grade students of SMP N 2 KUPANG in determining quantifiers? (2) What are causes of the students’ difficulties? The Aims of this research is to identify the difficulties and to describe the causes of the student’s difficulties in determining of quantifiers. The method used was qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The research was conducted was in SMP N 2 Kupang. The population of this research was eight grade students of SMP N 2 KUPANG and the number of sample was 30 students. This data were collected by using test and interview. Type of test was multiple-choice test. The results shows there are 243 difficulties found in determining quantifiers committed by eight grade students of SMP N 2 Kupang. The difficulties are classified into three types, they are (1) the difficulties for uncountable quantifiers there were 65 or 27% difficulties in using much, little, a little, (2) the difficulties for countable quantifiers there were 58 or 24% difficulties in using many, few a few, (3) the difficulties used for both countable and uncountable quantifiers there were 120 or 49% difficulties in using a lot of, some, any, each, every and no with the total entire there were 243 or 100%difficulties. There are three causes of the students’ difficulties in determining the quantifiers, first, the lack of grammar especially the use of (quantifiers), Second, lack of vocabulary in English, third carelessness.
