An Analysis Of Descriptive Writing Ability Of Grade Eight Students Of SMPN Satu Atap Moncok East Manggarai In The School Year 2019/2020

The objective of this research was to know the abilities of students of SMPN Satu Atap Moncok grade eight to write descriptive text in the school year 2019/2020. The type of method used was quantitative descriptive method. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN Satu Atap Moncok, East Manggarai which consist four classes. In which each class consist of 35 students and the total number was 140 students. There were 35 students selected as the sample. In this study, the writer give a test to know their ability in writing descriptive text. The result shows that eight grade students are able in writing descriptive text because, beside on the level of students writing ability was 54 and was categorized as average. There were some aspects to analyze. The first is the aspect of developing ideas. The mean score of developing ideas aspect was 60 and categorized as average. The second aspect to be analyzed was organizing idea. The finding showed that the mean score in organizing idea was 66 and categorized as good level. The third aspect is grammar. The mean score in grammar aspect was 54 and categorized as average. The next aspect is vocabulary. The mean score in vocabulary aspect was 64 and categorized as good. The last aspect is mechanic. The mean score in mechanic aspect was 46 and categorized as average. From the findings it can be concluded that organizing ideas was the component which became the strength of students writing skills with higher mean score 66 while the lowest came from mechanic aspect. In this aspect the mean score was 46 which is the lowest of all aspects. In general the students’mean score in writing descriptive text was 51 that showed the students’ writing descriptive text ability of the second year students of SMPN Satu Atap Moncok was in average level.
