The Figurative Languages in Ara Wawi Gaer Ceremony in Sikka Society
XMLThe objective of the study was to find out the kinds of figurative language and the meanings of figurative language used and contained in the Ara Wawi Gaer ceremony. The study applied descriptive qualitative method as the research design. The object of the study was the lyric that used in Ara Wawi Gaer ceremony and was taken in Nita Village, Maumere, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The data was then analyzed qualitatively using descriptive analysis. The result of this study found that there were six types of figurative language used in the lyrics of Ara Wawi Gaer ceremony; 2 lyrics used personification, 1 lyric used litotes, 2 lyrics used simile, 3 lyrics used metaphor, 3 lyrics used epithet, and 2 lyrics used hyperbole. Besides, there were four types of meaning in the figurative language used in the lyrics of Ara Wawi Gaer ceremony. There are 10 lyrics containing connotative meaning, 2 lyrics containing conceptual meaning, 1 lyric containing social meaning, and 1 lyric containing affective meaning. The most used figurative language was epithet and metaphor and most of the lyrics contain connotative meaning.
